Apple releases Boot Camp to run XP on Mac

More and more people are buying and loving Macs. To make this choice simply irresistible, Apple will include technology in the next major release of Mac OS X, Leopard, that lets you install and run the Windows XP operating system on your Mac. Called Boot Camp (for now), you can download a public beta today. As elegant as it gets.

Boot Camp lets you install Windows XP without moving your Mac data, though you will need to bring your own copy to the table, as Apple Computer does not sell or support Microsoft Windows. Boot Camp will burn a CD of all the required drivers for Windows so you don’t have to scrounge around the Internet looking for them. (more…)

Microsoft unfolds “Origami”, reveals on-the-go PC

Microsoft Corp. on Thursday unveiled its ‘Origami’ project, a paperback-book sized portable computer, which is a hybrid between a laptop PC and a host of mobile devices that the world’s biggest software maker hopes will create an entirely new market.

The Ultra-Mobile PC is a new kind of computer. It combines the power of Windows XP with mobile-ready technologies that make it easy to access and use your software on the go. With small, lightweight, carry-everywhere hardware designs, you can connect and communicate, accomplish any task anywhere and at any time, and be entertained and informed wherever life takes you.

Lighter than two pounds (0.972 kilograms) with a seven-inch (17.78-centimetre) touch-screen, the new “ultra-mobile” PCs (UMPCs) use microprocessors from Intel Corp. and run a modified version of Microsoft’s Windows XP Tablet PC edition.

Mike got some exclusive screenshots of Google’s long delayed new Ajax calendar application, CL2. The forthcomming CL2 is said to be closely, very closely, integrated with Gmail. It also includes now-standard web 2.0 features – Ajax, suscription feeds for integration with iCal and other desktop calendars, event creation, search, sharing, notifications (including SMS) and more. But he says that it is still far from being prime-time.

Mac OS X Security Challenge

The University of Wisconsin has launched a Mac OS X Security challenge, in response to a ‘woefully misleading ZDnet article’.

“Mac OS X is not invulnerable. It, like any other operating system, has security deficiencies in various aspects of the software. Some are technical in nature, and others lend themselves to social engineering trickery. However, the general architecture and design philosophy of Mac OS X, in addition to usage of open source components for most network-accessible services that receive intense peer scrutiny from the community, make Mac OS X a very secure operating system.” claims Dave Schroeder, the competition’s organiser.

Contestants who claim to have succeeded in hacking the system must provide details about how they breached the security walls, which will be provided to Apple. The winner gets a claim to fame, but no prize. This challenge will end on Fri 10 March 2006 10:00 AM CST. let’s see if anyone can do it.

Update: The testing period is now closed. (more…)

How To: Host a subdomain on another server or hosting company…

There are many times when it would be useful to host a sub-domain of your main site on another server or hosting company altogether. Maybe your sub-domain has outgrown the main site and you want to host it elsewhere for a better deal, maybe you’ve got some ultra cheap static file hosting for serving up images and videos elsewhere or maybe you have a company that allows you to have an affiliate store or something like that and they allow you to use your own domain. …except that you want to create a sub-domain of your main site to ensure consistency, customer trust and to retain your branding. #

How To: Increase your u/l and d/l ratio in torrent trackers

How to Increase your upload and download ratio in torrent trackers

The vulnerability has been tested on the torrent trackers that use the torrentbits source code (don’t know if it works on other trackers).
The idea of this vulnerability is that you will sniff your torrent info using the HTTP Analyzer and with Firefox you will update your stats to the tracker being identified as a client. This is a simple and short tutorial that shows you how to do it, if you are “more” advanced you can use other tools to do it.

Programs that you need:

HTTP Analyzer
Mozilla Firefox
User Agent Switcher Extension
And an bittorrent client.

Steps:

1. Install the User Agent Switcher Extension (the extension will be used to identify as a bittorrent client to the tracker) to Mozilla Firefox (if you don’t have Firefox, get it!).

How To: Searching for Warez using Google China

This post is not about encouraging you to download unlicensed software or warez. Use at your own risk.

Finding pirated software is surprisingly easy with Google. Yes, we have astalavista to find the serial numbers and key generators, but it might take you a little more time to find the original setup files, and software that do not use serial numbers to validate the license.

Enter Google. Google China, to be specific.

It?s okay if you don?t read chinese. You just have to know some keywords to download any files successfully, with the success rate of as high as 100% according to this blog. This blog got all the instructions on how to do it. I dont think Google will allow to do this for long.
